2 weeks in Iceland… and just one word: MAGICAL! I saw glaciers, volcanoes, icebergs, mud pools, geysers, waterfalls, fjords and so much more. I believe this is one of the best places in the world to reconnect with ‘mother Earth’. Here is an introduction of this amazing country with a video and photo teasers.

8 take-aways from my trip to Iceland
You can see all the planning information and photos location by location in my online Iceland Destination Guide, but here is some general things I have to outlined as a result of my trip.
1 - Iceland is one of my favorite destinations
I do not like this word but I have to use it: Iceland is AWESOME. So far it is one of my favorite countries to visit. I now dream of getting there in winter.
2 - Be Ready for Beauty Overload
Your brain may overload with beauty… mine did. When every 10 min you discover a surprisingly new type of scenery as beautiful and impressive as the previous one; The only problem is that your brain stops printing. One year of travel would be required to stop every couple of kilometers and stop to take it all in.
3 - You really don't care about the weather
Touring Iceland is one of the few holidays during which you don’t really care about the weather. Rain, fog, wind… it all creates a special ambiance with the scenery which is always breathtaking. But now layers of clothes are my new best friends 🙂
4 - There are waterfalls EVERYWHERE
With large glaciers and dramatic landscapes, there are waterfalls absolutely everywhere. I I am not kidding, I just counted and I have stopped and photographed 21 significant waterfalls, but have seen many more!

5 - September is a great month to visit Iceland
Fewer tourists, dark hours to get a chance to see auroras borealis and wonderful autumn colors, I recommend traveling in September (but I know that every season has its perks...)
6 - Iceland is great place for a first solo road trip
This is definitively a fantastic place for your first solo road trip as roads are easy and you do not cross many cars. You just have to be careful of sheep, they can appear on the road by surprise! Check out my guide to an Icelandic road trip to prepare yours.
7 - Time will become an issue
Iceland is way bigger than you imagine and you will want to stop everywhere. So don't plan to much on your itinerary to have the leisure to stop whenever you want. Check out my suggested itineraries.
8 - Food is excellent
I have met people who disagree (probably due to the lack of steaks...) but I think food is excellent. Why don’t we ever hear about Icelandic food? I know I am French. And French people tend to only think that only French food is worth mentioning, but still… I think I have never eaten that much fish in a week in my whole life
Now let's have some photo teasers. Those are just unprocessed iPhone photos. Sorry they are a bit dark but I just came back. Discover the better photos location by location in my online Iceland Travel Guide.

Awesome website and great info. Can you please help me with my trip to iceland ? I am looking for a 2 week itinerary with West Fjords but not the highlands. ALso I am planning to drive a RV. Any suggestions please ?
Claire Robinson says
Hi Mangesh. Thanks for your comment!
Regarding the RV, my only recommendation would be to look at how low the casing is. There are a lot of gravel roads and the rental company will create you problem if you damage under the vehicle.
Regarding the itinerary, I sadly have not had the chance to get there yet but my tour guide recommended 2/3 days. I have updated my ‘suggested itinerary post’ with the 2 Week Big Loop that should suit you (https://www.zigzagonearth.com/visit-iceland-itinerary/).
Enjoy your trip!
